Arboretum opening
We have created an arboretum in Buckminster village to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee 2022. The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative aims to create a ‘network of greenery’ in honour of the Queen’s service and the legacy she built over her 70-year reign.

A community tree planting day was held in January to create the orchard element. The 5-acre site is now home to 70 different primarily native species of tree, together with wetland and wildflower-seeded areas. There are also two ponds and multiple benches to encourage visitors to enjoy the spectacular views and reflect comfortably amongst the plants. Paths throughout the arboretum create a circular walking route, so visitors can easily explore all the beauty the arboretum has to offer.

Buckminster Arboretum will be a place for residents and visitors to the area to enjoy for many generations to come. It is now open for visitors to access and enjoy a peaceful walk amongst the greenery.
We have registered the arboretum on the Queen’s Green Canopy trees website, where you can view the nationwide sites on a map.
