The Hon Frederick James Tollemache, the fifth son and 10th child of William, Lord Huntingtower, has his very own statue at the southern end of St Peter’s Hill in Grantham. He represented the city as a Member of Parliament for 40 years between 1826 and 1874 and was very popular in his time, despite his ideas for change seeming very modern. He wanted to retire from politics during the 1860s but was persuaded to re-stand; a huge crowd gathered to greet him, and his supporters pulled his carriage through the town. He has two pubs named after him, one close to his statue in Grantham and the other in his home village of Buckminster.
